Blog challenge: What’s one thing you’re proud of?

Before we begin…

This post is part of Scott Dinsmore’s 7 day blog challenge. Since my writing has gotten a bit lazy of late I have decided to light a bit of a fire under it with this. Each day I will get a new post topic to write about, not all of them will necessarily be things I want to write about too much but I have committed to writing the post each day even if it’s only a small one. Since day one of the challenge is to start the blog, and that has clearly already been done so I started with day 2 which you can read here. Onwards with day 4…

 What’s one thing you’re proud of…

I am most proud of the way I connect with people, I have a knack for connecting with people from all sorts of backgrounds, seeing people’s unique opportunities and abilities and understanding people. I have friends from all sorts of backgrounds, with all sorts of ideals and even different languages. While I ironically sometimes struggle to make the initial connection, once I have I can happily have conversations on all sorts of topics. I strongly believe in leaving everyone better than when you found them, it doesn’t have to be big, even the smallest of things can make a difference. It is something which comes quite naturally to me, from when I was young, as a 13 year old playing cricket in my dad’s mens team, moving to NZ and connecting with the varied people over here and my last job where I worked with so many unique people. Over 5 years I worked with over 1000 different people and had the pleasure of getting to know a lot of them well, so much that when I chose to leave, I had literally hundreds of people get in touch to wish me luck, give me positive thoughts and memories of working together and say that they would miss me. It was a great feeling to have that much good will and love sent my way and gave me such a boost in confidence (something which can be lacking when you leave a job of 5 years with no real plan or other job to move on to). I guess for me it’s a case of opening yourself up to people and allowing them to open up to you, if you go out there and just be you, you will find people literally all over the world who will want to connect with you and be themselves around you.

I have had some of the strangest conversations you can imagine with the most unlikely people and nearly always end up learning something, sometimes its about the other person, sometimes about the world and sometimes its about myself, but I always walk away happy I had that conversation.

So what’s the most interesting conversation or connection you’ve had this week?
