How stubborness can be a quality, not a flaw

For most people, telling someone they are stubborn is not a compliment, it’s a sly put down on someones personality. Sure sometimes being stubborn has its downside for example: refusal to accept new and creative ideas. However stubbornness is a key part of a person’s refusal to lay down and “roll over”.

“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.” – Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
Imagine if Steve Jobs hadn’t been so stubborn.

He was fired from his own company Apple in 1985. Now as a 30-year-old, effectively kicked out of the company he co-founded, he could easily have taken a downward spiral and never been the technology superstar he turned out to be. 11 years later in 1996, Jobs returned to Apple after they bought his new technology company NeXT. Another 11 years later, he introduced the world to iPhone. All of you out there using an Apple i-device to read this post (statistics show that’s over 50% of you using mobile devices) have Steve Jobs’ stubbornness and refusal to lay down and die to thank for that.
